I used to pirate videogames, music and movies as a kid. Once I became gainfully employed, services began coming about that made piracy more trouble than its worth. I could buy games from Valve for cheap, high quality music I could play anywhere with Spotify, and watch thousands of movies without having to wait on a DVD to come in the mail with no ads from Netflix.
Meanwhile, many of my friends continued to pirate. Today there’s Plex. It’s the modern version of recording TV on VHS and making a collection of films and shows.
Netflix has, for me, made piracy less appealing than paying for a service. If they wish to keep me as a customer, I suggest they lessen the content they have on offer until they’re profitable rather than introduce ads.
